Overview

The Tugboat Mate plays a crucial role in the safe and efficient operation of tugboats, assisting in
the navigation and maneuvering of vessels in various waterways. This position requires a strong
understanding of maritime operations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work
collaboratively with the crew. The Tugboat Mate is responsible for ensuring that all safety
protocols are followed and that the tugboat is maintained in optimal condition.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Captain in navigating and maneuvering the tugboat during operations.
  • Conduct pre-departure checks to ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
  • Manage deck operations, including rigging and securing lines during docking and
    undocking procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment on deck.
  • Monitor weather conditions and communicate any changes to the Captain.
  • Collaborate with crew members to perform maintenance tasks and repairs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies at all times.
  • Provide support during emergency situations, following established protocols.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Tugboat Mate or in a similar maritime role is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge to assist with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to rig equipment safely and efficiently for various operations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective coordination with
    crew members.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as required by
    operational needs.
  • A valid maritime certification or license with a minimum 200 Ton endorsement is
    required.
  • Anchor Handling Experience is preferred, but not required.
